John W. Sutherland, Jr.
John W. “Burly” Sutherland, Jr. was born March 7, 1929, in Blue Springs, Nebraska to John W. Sutherland Sr. and his wife Thelma. He was a large man (hence the nickname “Burly”), and he was a veteran of the United States Army. “Burly” also served as the Washington County, Nebraska Sheriff. He was a member of the Max Community Club, as well as an avid outdoorsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing.
“Burly” passed away April 10, 2007 at the age of 78. At the time of his death he was survived by his second wife Lylia; daughters Roxanne (and Pat) Edwards of Blair, Nebraska, and Robin (and Wayne) Larsen of Cozad, Nebraska; sons Tim (and Gretchen) Sutherland of Seward, Nebraska, Bill Sutherland of Blair, Nebraska, and Mark (and Kim) Sutherland of Bertrand, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and brothers Cliff (of Omaha), Dar (of Blair) and Dick (of Sioux Falls, SD).
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen, and a son, Joseph.
